Be a Mustard Seed

Tiny mustard seeds……

Matthew 17:20-21 “For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of mustard seeds, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. “

Canada produces more than 80% of the world’s mustard seeds and is also the world’s largest exporter of mustard seeds.

Let’s be mustard seeds!

Oh Canada, we stand on guard for thee!!!!!!!

Wiarton Willie

A statue of Willie

Little Wiarton Willie dug his way up and out of his burrow yesterday, only to discover that his shadow was nowhere to be found.

He didn’t quite know what to think as the people kept shouting ‘hooray, hooray, only six weeks til spring.’ Willie scurrying, quickly ran deep into his burrow and fell fast asleep.

So folks, get out your seed catalogs and dust off those trays. If there was ever a good time to grow your own food, I think it’s today.

It’s time to think Canadian and protect what is ours. Check all your labels. Every country is fine except the greedy nation south of us whose goods we’ll decline.

So shop carefully spending the extra time, support your nieghbours and prehaps even pickle.

Icicles

Icicles….
Ice moves
Ice shifts.

Temperatures rise
Moods lift.

Ice forms
Ice shapes.

Songs song
Music taped.

Ice freezes
Ice makes.

Jack Frost on Windows
Icing on cakes.

Ice shard
Ice guard.

The earth is frozen
The ground is hard.

Ice falls
Ice chips.

Dirt becomes mud
When the ice begins to drip.

Ice melts
Ice drips.

The paper cup
It rips.

Popeye the Sailorman

Popeye, the Sailorman!
Popeye the Sailorman,
Who once lived in a garbage can
Is now public domain
So anyone
Can
Since first arriving in 1929
Draw the man.
Me and my childhood, Johnny B.

I have great childhood memories of Popeye the Sailorman!

When we were children, my friend Johnny and I would sit on the floor in our living room, behind the old wood stove, and belt out Popeye the Sailorman ditties.

Our favourite, the one that made us laugh  the loudest was…….

Popeye the Sailorman
He lives in the garbage can!
He eats all the worms,
Then he spits out the germs.
He's Popeye the Sailorman!

We had a whole collection of this type of verse that we would very loudly sing. Some we learned from others. The funniest ones we made up ourselves.

Sadly, Johnny passed away many years ago.

I love, upon hearing that Popeye became public domain today, that these happy and fond memories came tumbling back.

He ate all the worms, then spit out the germs!

I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of ‘can of worms’ will now be opened.

The Magic of Lights

On their way to Bethlehem

The Magic of Lights wind their way through the forests of Springwater Provincial Park.

The Three Wise Men follow the star that will lead them to the baby Jesus.

Listening to Christmas tunes at 107.9fm as we travel through candy canes, snowflakes, and a prehistoric land filled with dinosaurs

An Angel of the Lord appeared telling the shepherds of Jesus’ birth.

The twelve days of Christmas, tunnels of lights, and Feliz Navidad lined the forest trail.

The birth of Jesus!

Merry Christmas and all the best in this Happy New Year!

Bacon and Eggs, and Chocolate

A late lunch….

Who doesn’t enjoy a couple of chocolate covered marshmallows cookies smothered in chocolate sauce and slivered almonds, with their bacon and eggs?

Who? Anyone! Even the Who’s from Whoville know it’s good for you!

Anyone who frequents Cora’s restaurant can partake in this culinary delight. My eggs were well done, the bacon crisp, the toast rye, and my coffee cup was always full.

My waffle, topped with fruit, didn’t need syrup as the strawberries and bananas tumbled down a chocolate slide. It all screamed for that extra topping of chocolate marshmallow cookies smothered in chocolate!

Chocolate marshmallow cookies covered in chocolate and slivered almonds.

They came home with me.

I just couldn’t do it!

But, I would order it again.

The Candy Cane

It is one of my favourite Christmas treats!

What is a candy cane?

A sweet, sugary, peppermint flavoured stick of pure pleasure!

A cane-shaped stick candy flavored with peppermint, with the hook so that it can be hung from a Christmas tree. This one is decorated with red and green stripes, the colours of Christmas.

The candy cane, first introduced in the 17th century, is now available in a multitude of colours and flavors.

What is a candy cane?

A candy cane can also represent the shepherd’s staff.

The shepherd’s staff that represents Jesus Christ as the Good Shepherd who cares for his flock and lays down his life for the sheep.

J for Jesus

What is a candy cane.

Turned upside down, the candy cane becomes a J.

A…… J for Jesus.

Jesus, the reason for the Christmas season.
